NURSERY ACTIVITIES

PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES

Activities are planned in advance by all staff, taking into account the interests of the children, covering all development areas under the Curriculum for Excellence for children aged 3-5 as advised by the Scottich Office and the Pre-Birth to Three (Smarter Scotland) guidelines.

All children are encouraged to participate in the variety of activites on offer. The programme of activities is flexible in content to allow for both quiet and noisy play, interspersed with time for rest and relaxation.

PLAY ACTIVITIES & EQUIPMENT

A range of play equipment, all to British Safety Standards, and materials are made available, enabling children to development to their full potential

All equipment is checked regularly to ensure safety and is cleaned on a regular basis. Appropriate supervision is in place during physical play and when equipment is in use.

OUTDOOR PLAY AREA

A secure outdoor play area exists at the rear of the East Calder Nursery and the Livingston Nursery has a large sunny play area at the front of the building. Children are encouraged to use this area on a daily basis under the supervision of relevant number of staff. This has recently involved gardening activities including planting and caring for the plants.

Walks and visits to local parks and other places of interest are incorporated into activity programmes.

TRIPS & OUTINGS

Trips and outings are organised on a regular basis to places of interest and with relevance to the current theme. Parental consent is sought prior to any child taking part in the outing or trip. SCSWIS regulations are strictly adhered to when planning and during a trip or outing to ensure the safety of all children.
